Injection tariffs by grid operator in Belgium

The injection tariff pays you for every kWh fed into the grid. It is set annually by each DSO and varies depending on the region, the installed capacity and the consumption profile.

What drives your injection revenue and your self-consumption rate

Two installations identical in capacity can generate very different revenues. Here are the items that truly determine your solar balance.

  • Bidirectional meter

    Without a bidirectional meter, all injected energy is lost (no remuneration). Its installation is now mandatory for every solar connection in Belgium and is handled by your DSO.

  • Self-consumption rate

    The share of your production consumed directly at home is not injected: it is worth the full retail electricity price (0,25–0,35 €/kWh) versus 0,05 €/kWh for injection. Maximising self-consumption is therefore the priority.

What is the solar injection tariff in Belgium?

The injection tariff is the remuneration paid by your grid operator (DSO) for every kWh your solar panels inject into the public grid. It varies by DSO: around 0,050 €/kWh at Ores (Wallonia), 0,045 €/kWh at Resa (Liège) and 0,075 €/kWh at Sibelga (Brussels). These tariffs are revised annually.

Is it better to inject or to self-consume your solar electricity?

Self-consumption is almost always more profitable than injection. Every self-consumed kWh saves you from buying electricity at 0,25–0,35 €/kWh, whereas injection only earns about 0,05 €/kWh. The ideal strategy is to maximise self-consumption, then inject the surplus.

What is a bidirectional meter and is it mandatory?

A bidirectional meter measures separately the electricity drawn from the grid and the electricity injected. It has been mandatory since 1 January 2023 for every new solar connection in Belgium. Your DSO provides and installs it at commissioning.

Does a battery really improve the self-consumption rate?

Yes, significantly. Without a battery, the self-consumption rate of a household away during the day is 20–35 %. With a 10 kWh battery, it rises to 60–80 %. The economic value depends on your profile: we calculate the exact return on investment during sizing.

How do I know which DSO manages my connection?

Will injection tariffs change in 2026?
