What makes the price of your solar installation vary
For an equal capacity, two quotes can differ by several thousand euros. Here are the items that really weigh.
- Capacity & number of panels
The more kWp you install, the higher the total cost — but the price per peak watt drops with size: a large installation is proportionally cheaper.
- Type of panel
Standard monocrystalline, premium (SunPower, Maxeon) or bifacial: the panel choice affects both the price and the long-term yield.
Compare panels → - Inverter (micro vs string)
A micro-inverter per panel costs 20 to 30% more than a central (string) inverter, but optimises production panel by panel and simplifies maintenance.
- Roof (orientation, pitch, type)
A south-facing roof pitched at 30–35° is ideal. An east-west orientation, a flat roof with a tilt structure or special tiles generate an additional cost.
Solar yield → - Meter connection
Bringing the electrical panel up to standard, a bidirectional meter, procedures with the grid operator: an item that is sometimes underestimated but included in our offer.
- Structure & support
Roof hooks, rails and fixings on a pitched roof, or a tilt structure on a flat roof: the anchoring determines the strength and can weigh €500 to €1,500 depending on the configuration.
The grants that lighten your solar installation
Installing solar panels in Belgium entitles you to regional support mechanisms. Here are the 2026 benchmarks — we calculate the amount and guide you through the procedures.
Green certificates (Qualiwatt successor)
The Walloon support mechanism awards green certificates in proportion to the green energy produced. Each certificate is bought back by the grid operator at a guaranteed rate for 5 years.
- Installation carried out by an approved installer (RGE-equivalent label)
- Compliant inspection and commissioning by your grid operator
- Installation declaration with the CWaPE
Green certificates + Renolution grant
Brussels combines a green certificate mechanism over 10 years and a Renolution grant for integrating solar in renovation, increased according to your income.
- Installation in a home more than 10 years old for the Renolution grant
- Certified installer and itemised invoice mandatory
- Declaration with Brugel within the regulatory deadlines

Your questions on solar panel prices
How much does a solar installation cost in 2026?
For a standard house (5 to 8 kWp), expect between €8,000 and €12,000 supplied and fitted, inverter included. A small installation (3–5 kWp) starts at around €5,500. These ranges exclude grants and storage batteries.
Does the price include mounting and connection?
Yes. The ranges are for an installation supplied, fitted and connected to the grid, including the declaration to the operator. The quote itemises every item so there are no surprises.
What is the difference between a micro-inverter and a string inverter?
A string (central) inverter is cheaper to buy and suits well-exposed roofs with no shading. Micro-inverters, one per panel, cost 20 to 30% more but optimise each panel’s production independently — useful in case of partial shading or a complex roof.
Which green certificates or grants in 2026?
In Wallonia, the support mechanism guarantees green certificates for 5 years, around €2,200 per year for a 6 kWp installation. In Brussels, the certificates run over 10 years plus a Renolution grant. In Flanders, specific compensation tariffs apply. We calculate your entitlements from the first contact.
Is VAT reduced for a solar installation?
Yes. For the renovation of a home more than 10 years old, VAT is 6% instead of 21%. On a €9,000 installation, that represents a saving of about €1,350. We check your eligibility from the first contact.
How long does it take to pay off solar panels?
In Belgium, the return on investment is generally between 5 and 8 years depending on your region, your consumption and the certificates received. With current electricity prices and the subsidies in force, profitability has improved markedly in recent years.
