Custom aluminium: the material for oversized openings and special shapes

When PVC reaches its limits, aluminium takes over. Its rigidity carries bays several metres wide and shapes no one else will make: arches, full arches, attic trapezoids, oculi, glass roofs, frameless corner glazing. Any size, any RAL, special glazing — built to your exact measurements.

What custom aluminium fabrication really makes possible

Custom-made is not a sales pitch: it means genuinely achievable dimensions, shapes and finishes. Here is what the rigidity of aluminium allows, fitted by our teams.

  • Oversized dimensions
Up to 6 m per bay

The rigidity of the aluminium profile carries very large glazed surfaces without heavy reinforcement. Sliding units several metres wide, full-height windows, glazed facades: dimensions PVC cannot bear without bulking up.

  • Special shapes
    To plan

Arch, full arch, attic trapezoid, oculus, triangle, pentagon: aluminium bends and cuts to shape. Every unusual opening finds its joinery, where the standard range offers nothing.

  • Corner glazing
    No mullion

Two bays meeting at a corner with no intermediate post: an all-glass effect impossible without the rigidity of aluminium. The signature of contemporary living rooms opening onto the garden.

  • Special glazing
    On request

Triple glazing, enhanced acoustic, solar control, frosted, burglar-resistant: a custom build integrates the right glazing for each room and each orientation.

  • Colours & finishes
    Any RAL

The full RAL range in matt, satin or textured, plus two-tone (one colour inside, another outside). The finish is chosen room by room, with no batch surcharge.

  • Fitting precision
    To the mm

Dimensions taken during the free survey, fabrication to the exact size, fitting fine-tuned: no unsightly filler, no add-on profiles. The frame hugs the opening, whether new-build or renovation.

* Indicative capabilities for thermally broken aluminium ranges. Maximum dimensions and shapes depend on the profile, the glazing and the orientation — confirmed during the survey.

Pros & cons of custom aluminium

Custom aluminium is unbeatable on some projects, less relevant on others. Here, honestly, is where it shines and where another route is better.

Where it excels

  • No limit on shapeArches, trapezoids, rounds, corner glazing: the shape the standard range cannot do.
  • Very large dimensionsCarries bays several metres wide that PVC simply cannot bear.
  • Open finishAny RAL, matt or textured, two-tone — chosen room by room.
  • Millimetre-perfect fitBuilt to the exact surveyed size: a clean fit with no filler.

What you should know

  • The cost of a one-offCustom-made and aluminium add up: budget above a standard aluminium range.
  • Longer lead timesMade-to-measure and special shapes extend the lead time versus the standard range.
  • Insulation tied to the thermal breakOn very large surfaces, the glazing and profile are chosen with care.
  • Overkill for the ordinaryFor windows of common size, custom PVC is often enough.
For which project

When custom aluminium is the right call

It becomes the right choice as soon as the opening falls outside the standard — by size, shape or architectural role. A few typical cases:

  • Glass roofs & glazed facades

    Glass roofs & glazed facades

Studio-style glass roofs, full-height facades, verandas: the rigidity of aluminium structures large glazed surfaces with slim, regular mullions.

  • Attics & unusual shapes

    Attics & unusual shapes

Trapezoids under sloping roofs, arches, oculi, triangles: the openings the standard range ignores are built here to the exact shape of the structure.

  • XXL bays & corner glazing

    XXL bays & corner glazing

Sliding units several metres wide and frameless corner glazing: the all-glass effect onto the garden, reserved for aluminium.

Common sizes, or the general process?

For standard-sized windows built to measure, custom PVC offers a better price/insulation ratio. And to understand the approach, the survey and the grants across all materials, see custom windows in overview.

Case study · gable renovation, Wavre

An attic gable fully glazed, trapezoids included

The owner wanted to open up a previously blank attic gable with its trapezoidal sloping lines. No standard window fitted the shape. We designed and custom-built an anthracite, thermally broken aluminium assembly: two trapezoids and a large central bay, fitted to the millimetre on the existing masonry.

Custom aluminium FAQ

Your questions on custom aluminium

What shapes can you make in custom aluminium? +

Almost any: arch, full arch, attic trapezoid, oculus, triangle, pentagon, as well as frameless corner glazing. The rigidity of aluminium lets us bend and cut the profile to the exact shape of the opening, where no standard window fits.

How large a bay can aluminium reach? +

Very large dimensions, often up to several metres per bay depending on the profile and glazing. The rigidity of the metal carries sliders and full-height windows that PVC cannot bear without bulking up or being heavily reinforced. The maximum size is confirmed during the survey.

Does custom cost a lot more than standard? +

A unit built to measure, especially in a special shape, costs more than a standard window. But it avoids any unsightly filler and fits the structure perfectly. On an unusual opening, custom is often the only clean, durable solution.

What is the lead time for custom aluminium windows? +

Longer than a standard range, as each unit is built to your dimensions after the survey. Allow several weeks of fabrication in general, more for complex shapes or large glazed assemblies. The exact lead time is confirmed in your quote.

Can I choose any colour? +

Yes. The full RAL range is available in matt, satin or textured finish, and even two-tone — one colour inside, another outside. Anthracite and black remain the most requested for their contemporary look, but the choice is free, unit by unit.

Does custom qualify for grants and 6% VAT? +

Yes, exactly like a standard window. Grants depend on the performance achieved (Uw coefficient), not on being custom-made. High-performance aluminium qualifies, depending on your region and income, for a renovation grant and 6% VAT on homes over ten years old. We handle the paperwork for you.
