Heat demand
Your current heating bill is converted into kWh of actually useful heat, based on the cost per kWh of your energy (heating oil, gas or electricity).
Efficiency (COP)
A heat pump delivers 3 to 4 kWh of heat for every 1 kWh of electricity consumed. This coefficient of performance determines your new bill.
Grants & payback
We deduct the regional grant from the installed investment, then calculate the payback time and the cumulative net gain over the system’s lifetime.
Heat pump profitability
Is a heat pump really worth it in Belgium? +
Yes, especially when replacing oil or direct electric heating. With a COP of 3,5 or more, you divide your heating energy consumption by three or four. Combined with the regional grant and the reduced VAT, the annual savings pay the installation back within a few years.
Air-to-air or air-to-water: which one to choose? +
Air-to-water feeds your radiators or underfloor heating and produces domestic hot water: it’s the complete heating solution, eligible for the highest grant. Air-to-air blows warm air room by room, costs less to install but rarely qualifies for the heating grant. The calculator compares both.
What grant is there for a heat pump? +
In Wallonia, the grant for an air-to-water unit can reach 4 000 € depending on your income; in Brussels up to 4 500 €; in Flanders around 2 500 €. Installation also benefits from 6% VAT for homes over ten years old. The exact amounts depend on your situation and are confirmed with the quote.
Is the calculator reliable? +
It gives a serious order of magnitude based on 2026 Belgian benchmarks and a cautious seasonal COP. The final quote refines the calculation with your actual heat loss, the state of your insulation and the chosen heat pump model.
What the calculation takes into account
- COP used: 3,6 for air-to-water, 3,8 for air-to-air — realistic seasonal values for Belgium
- Electricity bought at 0,35 €/kWh; current cost per kWh of heat: heating oil 0,13 €, gas 0,12 €, electric 0,32 €
- Median installed investment: ≈ 11 000 € for air-to-water, ≈ 6 000 € for air-to-air
- Grant by region: Wallonia up to 4 000 €, Brussels up to 4 500 €, Flanders 2 500 € (air-to-water) — air-to-air rarely qualifies for the heating grant
- Indicative estimate: only a quote takes your home, its insulation and the installed model into account
